At AHA/SF we understand that it can be
stressful finding a decent home. We encourage you to utilize our
services, however, by preparing yourself we can better support your
needs and inquiries.
Please take a few minutes and read below
on how we work.
Cost: While our
services are free, we rely on member donations to remain strong.
Hours: Because of the
urgent nature of many members housing needs, we operate on a drop-in
basis and don't take appointments at this time. Call
415-552-3242 for weekly drop-in hours. Currently we see people
Friday afternoon from 1 - 3 p.m.
What to Bring: Letter of diagnosis, ID,
proof of income. If you have them, it is helpful to bring a credit
report, rent subsidy letters, social security card and bank statements.
For tenant counseling, copies of the lease and any letters from the
landlord, etc. will help.
Time: Everyone's
situation is different. Some people have gotten an apartment the same
day they see us. Others we work with for months before they are ready
to get their own place. It is important to note deposit help can take
up to 4 weeks to process.
Lists and Subsidies: We
operate on a case management model. As part of a person's Housing Plan,
we may help them get onto housing lists and apply for subsidies.
However, we don't have any lists or subsidies of our own.
Drug Use: We have abstinence
buildings where illegal drug use is not tolerated and is grounds for
eviction. We have harm-reduction buildings where drug use is
treated as a clinical issue. Please let us know which best suits your
needs. If you're ready to quit, many of us are former users and would
be more than happy to assist you accessing subsidized housing in a
treatment program.
