Why do a lot of us have anxiety
about filling out lease applications, or even applications for
assistance? It's because we're afraid of rejection, we're afraid of
doing it wrong and screwing ourselves up. How do we tell them about our
disability income? What should I say if they ask if I'm disabled?
I have bad credit because of my medical bills, what should I say? It
took me 6 months to get my first disability check after I got sick and
I was evicted for nonpayment of rent. What do I say? I don't have all
of the deposit money, what should I say? Heck, I'm getting anxiety just
thinking about all of this while I'm typing.
It's not uncommon to get overwhelmed by all of this. A
lot of times we get overwhelmed and get stuck. We avoid the source of
the negative feelings and then wind up sabotaging ourselves. Sometimes
we just need a helping hand to steady us thru the process or help us
answer questions in the best way possible.
When I get sick, I get a bad case of encephalopathy,
which makes it difficult to read and comprehend things. Sometimes, our
brain just ain't what it used to be and we need someone to do it for
us. Sometimes it's difficult to admit this, especially to someone who
has no clue what we're going thru. For us at AHA/SF, it ain't no big
deal, we can swap stories of getting lost a block from our house while
we help you get done what you need to get done.
